This video from oorail.com provides a step by step photo guide to building small and large scale shelf layouts in OO gauge. The video shows how we built our original test layout using pine boards and shelf brackets. It shows how we grew that layout from a small 12 foot run to a large scale layout. The video also documents the new permanent layout which was constructed using a mix of 4' x 2' birch plywood boards and 10-12" wide pine boards. The new layout was constructed during December 2011, the original test layout was constructed during December 2010. The new layout is approximately 5 feet above the ground. However you could easily take these techniques to build a layout around a bedroom at normal shelf height. The same techniques can be applied to N gauge and HO gauge (OO gauge uses HO gauge track).
